Organic Farming is a different farming technique than green revolution agriculture. As compared with the industrial approach of high tillage, chemical fertilizer and herbicides pesticides, the basic technique encourages and works with the bio organisms and earth worms in the soil and increases the fertility of the soil – so it is more bio-scientific than green revolution agriculture (the is basically form of chemical warfare that favors one crop while destroying the biological fertility of the soil). It starts with making the soli more organic through additions of compost fertilizer and organic matter and increasing the drainage of the soil. The technique uses organic fertilizer, and does not use any chemical fertilizer or herbicides and pesticides.
The technique also favors traditional varieties of seeds and crops and generally does not use hybrid and new varieties and definitely not the new GMO (genetically modified) seeds. The plants are generally planted intensively and sometimes uses the practice of companion planting, where plants that like each other are grown together.
The plants are generally healthier and so more resistant to insect attacks, but one can use sprays of biological herbicides and pesticides, if needed. Organic farming is more labor intensive, but should command a premium in terms of price as the produce is cleaner and more nutritious. The produce is generally more nutritious and is definitely free of any herbicide and pesticide residues that are and for the health.”
When “Green Revolution” agriculture was introduced in developing nations in the 1950s and 1960s it was sold as a strategy for the agricultural abundance that would lead to agrarian peace. The basics of the method were that hybrid seeds of wheat and rice, when combined with high levels of fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides (biocides), mechanical tillage […]
